System-built homebuyers take advantage of 10 percent tax credit
OKEMOS, Mich.-In today's challenging economy, it seems like everyone is trying to get the most for their money. This is no exception when it comes to the purchase of a home. You don't have to downgrade your lifestyle to obtain a more affordable home. By choosing a system-built home, you can own a brand new home for 10 percent to 35 percent less than a site-built home, without sacrificing quality. First-time homebuyers who purchase a home before December 1, 2009, may be eligible to receive a new refundable tax credit equal to 10 percent of the home's purchase price up to $8,000. The average price of a system-built home is just $55,900, allowing homebuyers to take full advantage of the 10 percent tax credit ($5,590). The tax credit is a part of President Barack Obama's $787 economic stimulus package.
"Pre-owned system-built homes are doing great in this housing market and are an especially great option for the first-time homeowner," said Bill Lettinga, President of the Michigan Manufactured Housing Association.
With system-built housing, the homebuilders purchase construction materials, including interior features and appliances in large quantities to take advantage of volume pricing. Those savings are passed onto the homebuyer. System-built homes are constructed in temperature-controlled environments so delays are few, if any, due to weather conditions. Damaged building materials, vandalism and theft can be costly and inefficient to the buyer-ideal for Michigan's unpredictable weather. From start to finish, system-built homes can be completed and ready in record time for the homeowner to move in.
System-built homes range in size from 1,000 to 3,000 square feet, and come with a limitless number of options including oak cabinets, plush carpeting, stone fireplaces, skylights and 'smart home' electronic packages. These luxuries, typically associated with site-built homes, can be found in system-built homes for less money. They contain standard features which include modern kitchen appliances, and custom options such as wood-burning fireplaces, whirlpool baths and cathedral ceilings.
